"Lithograph on Wood" (Mokulito) is a lithograph that uses a wooden plate as a plate.
It was invented by Professor Seishi Ozaku (now Professor Emeritus) of Tama Art University in the late 1970s.
While normal lithographs use stone or metal for the plates, this technique uses wooden boards, such as those available at home improvement stores.
Prof. Ozaku devised the Sizing (Mokulito-Dosa) which, can be made without experts in printmaking, and other techniques to make printmaking more accessible to a broader range of people. Notably, with this Sizing, you can also make paper lithographs.
After 27 years of research, I believe that showing this production procedure would be an effective way to convey the significance of the Mokulito technique.
Therefore, this book explains how to make Mokulito, focusing on paper lithographs.
It would be my greatest pleasure to show you how to make Mokulito, which was born in Japan, its charm and possibilities, and the joy of making prints.
People often ask me if I add any acid to Gum Arabic, but I only add water to Gum Arabic.
As described in this book, Dosa (Sizing) improves the effectiveness of Gum Arabic, making it easier to print clear images.
Dosa can also be used to turn a drawing on a paper into a printing plate.
Today, even AI can draw pictures, so I even more feel the preciousness of Mokulito, which is made while experiencing the nature's providence.
It is a pleasure to share the joy of handmade prints, and I hope that more and more people create a variety of works through this book.
I will continue my studies so that Mokulito can be enjoyed by anyone, any age even children, and in any country.
